About Kristin Gustafson
|
After her move back to the states in the late eighties, Kristin
wholesaled her wearable art line to upscale boutiques. During this
time she batiked a series of tropical women in tribute to her years
in the Caribbean. This “Beach Babes” series was contracted to a
resort clothing company for imprinting on their apparel and marketed
internationally.
As an animal-rights activist and a concerned environmentalist
Kristin now draws upon her academic background and training to
return to fine art painting. Her most recent series, We Are All
Connected, reflects this philosophy.

Kristin Gustafson’s lifelong passion to express herself as an artist
has led her down many paths. Her passion began in her home state,
Minnesota, then on to the Virgin Islands, the tropical paradise
which she likes to remember as her “thawing out and learning to
chill out” time of life, to her current paradise, Southwest Florida,
where the flora, fauna and beaches inspire her daily.
Sojourn highlights include her own art boutique at Mt. Top,
overlooking Magen’s Bay in St. Thomas, in the mid eighties. For over
twenty years she had enjoyed exploring and mastering batik, a
centuries old Javanese craft, which entails painting on natural
fabrics with melted beeswax and cold-water dyes. Using this ancient
technique she filled her boutique with hand-painted and batiked
clothing from hats to bustier to silk scarves and tropical bird and
flower batik paintings. All inspired by her love of the Caribbean
and the tropical foliage she traded for Minnesota’s 10,000 lakes and
pine forests.
